Obituary for Robert "Bob" Hoff

METAMORA – Robert “Bob” Hoff, 88, of Metamora, formerly of Peoria, passed away at 5 a.m., on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Snyder Village with his family by his side. Bob was born on August 21, 1924, in Pekin to Louie and Beatrice (Mehl) Hoff. He married Elizabeth A. “Betty” Brill on May 19, 1945, in Peoria. She preceded him in death on May 19, 2007, on their 62nd anniversary. He was also preceded in death by their daughter, Lynn Allenspach. Bob is survived by three daughters, Lisa (Rick) Funcannon of Lacon, and Mary (Rick) McMorrow and Chris (Steve) Hardine both of Germantown Hills; eleven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Bob served in the Air Force from 1943-1946 as an airplane mechanic and pilot. With much pride, Bob would tell you he worked for Hiram Walker for 40 years and one day. Upon retirement, he was a crossing guard for Holy Family School for over 20 years. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and Hiram Walker Rod and Gun Club, where he and Betty spent several wonderful years with their Hiram Walker lifetime friends. He enjoyed camping and fishing, taking several trips to Canada with his fishing buddies. He was also an avid gardener, enjoying his own tomatoes, garlic, and green onions. His biggest enjoyment was being a Cubs fan, passing that legacy down to his daughters and several of his grandchildren. His pride and joy was a Cubs poster. He worked with his grandsons having the poster signed by several Cubs players, ending up with over 100 autographs in all. He often reminisced about celebrating his 80th birthday in a box suite at Wrigley Field, having his name and birthday wishes scroll across the scoreboard during the game. The family would like to thank the staff at Snyder Village for their love and dedication to Bob. They truly loved him. They would also like to thank Methodist Hospice for their support; and a special thank you to Dr. Sonu Dhillon for his expertise giving dad a better quality of life in his final months. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Franciscan Friars will officiate. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
