Obituary for James W. Jordan

PEORIA- James W. Jordan, 89, of Maryville, IL, passed away at 11:58 AM, Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria. He was born on December 29, 1922 in Peoria, son of Walter J. and Adela M. (Eberle) Jordan. He married AnnaBelle Czerwonka on December 19, 1964 in Clayton, MO. She preceded him in death on June 11, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Ronald Tauscher and Herbert Grimm, Jr. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific as a radio gunner with the First Marine Air Wing Dive Bomber Squadron, logging over 300 hours of flight time and earning a number of awards, including two Distinguished Flying Crosses and two Air Medals with four Gold Stars. James was a 1941 graduate of Woodruff High School. After his military service, he completed a certificate program in Horology at Bradley University, and also received a Certified Watchmaker certificate from the Horological Institute of America. He worked as a watch repairman in jewelry stores in IA and IL before joining the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1952 in Okinawa and Taiwan. Upon returning to the U.S. in 1957, he transferred to the Army Troop Support and Material Readiness Command in St. Louis, MO, where he was initially responsible for supplying portable bridges and later, Cobra helicopters for the Army. He retired in 1987. He was a member of the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute, the Loyal Order of the Moose, and was a lifetime member of the VFW and the NRA. Surviving are one brother, John M. (Mary) Jordan of Peoria; two sisters, Dorothy Tauscher of Peoria and MaryAnn Grimm of Sycamore, IL; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, Friday, February 10, 2012 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary in Peoria. A Eulogy will be presented at 5:00 PM. Further visitation will be from 10:00 AM to Noon on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Irwin-Scott Funeral Home in Glen Carbon, IL. Graveside services will follow at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
