Obituary for Robert Joseph Corrigan

CHILLICOTHE - Robert Joseph Corrigan, 57, of Chillicothe passed away at 11:30 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2015, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Bob was born on April 9, 1958, to Robert L. and Elizabeth J. (Sullivan) Corrigan in Freeport, Ill. He married Mary E. Alexander in 1986. They were married for 25 years and have one son, Patrick Sullivan Corrigan. He shared these past several years with his close friend, Kathleen Murphy.
He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth; his son, Patrick; brother, John Corrigan; sister, Kate (Bob) Stroup; nieces and nephew, Bridget, Jessica, and Garrett Stroup; aunt, Katheryn Lowe of Calif.; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; sister, Brigid Corrigan; in addition to many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Bob graduated from Aquin High School in 1976. He received a football scholarship to Monmouth College in Monmouth, Ill. He was also a member of the Monmouth golf team. Bob studied economics and business administration at Monmouth College. He was also a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
After graduation, Bob worked for First National Bank in the trust department and taught economics at Highland Community College in Freeport, Ill. He later moved to Kansas City, Mo., and eventually settled in Peoria. He worked in sales as an investment representative and manager for several investment firms over his career including, Federated Investments, Fidelity Investments, Santa Fe Trust, Caterpillar, Inc., and most recently, Beacon Capital Management.
Bob had many talents and interests. He was an athlete and excelled in football, basketball, and golf. While at Monmouth College, his golf team won four conference championships. He played in the Mens City Golf tournament in Peoria for several years. In 2012, he won the longest drive golf competition for his age group at Detweiller Golf Coursein Peoria. His license plate read TOFF 435 for the distance he drove a golf ball.
Bob also enjoyed singing and oil painting. In October of 2014, he was one of the featured artists in downtown Monmouth for an Art Exhibition Reception sponsored by Monmouth College.
Bob loved his family, friends, and living along the Illinois River Valley.
A memorial Mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2015, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Peoria. Father Thomas Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of ashes will be in Calvary Cemetery in Freeport, Ill., at a later date. Wright Salmon Mortuary is handling the services.
