Obituary for Colleen P. Dries

EAST PEORIA-Colleen P. Dries, 58 of East Peoria, died on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at OSF St Francis Medical Center. Born on April 15, 1948 in Lansing, Michigan to Peter C. and Mary Alice Campion Dries. Surviving are one sister, Mary Theresa (Edward W.) Coates of Monmouth; one brother, James C. Dries of Chillicothe; two nieces, Jennifer and Lauren Coates and one nephew, Nathaniel Coates all of Monmouth. She earned her B.A. in Social Studies & Education in August 1971 from St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO; Post B.A. work in English as a second language from Illinois State University, Normal, IL; and M.A. in Leadership in Educational Administration in December 1996 from Bradley University, Peoria, IL. Colleen was Principal of Adult Education and Family Literacy. Her Administrative experience includes, Peoria Public Schools: 1995-97 Grant writing for Adult Education. Illinois Adult & Continuing Educators Association: 1991-96 Planned, organized, and conducted state conference, established Task Force, conducted board meetings, designed & implemented state legislative fax network for legislative alerts, committee for re-writing 10-22.20 of IL School Code. Her professional activities include: 1987-1997 commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE) Regional Director 1994-96, Nominations and Elections Committee 1996; American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE) Nominations and Elections Committee, 1996; Illinois Adult & Continuing Educators Association (IACEA); Present Legislative Chair and Membership Chair 1994-96, President-elect 1991-92, President 1992-93, Past President 1993-94, Past Regional Director 1987-91, Conference Chair 1992, IACEA Task Force on Adult Education; initiator & overseer 1992-96; presenter at numerous regional and state-wide conferences 1989-96. Her professional recognition include: 1995 President’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Adult Education Illinois. Illinois Adult & Continuing Educators Association. 1989 Teacher of the Year, Illinois Adult & Continuing Educators Association. A memorial mass will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick Fennell officiating. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the church and one hour before the mass at church. Cremations rites have been accorded. A memorial mass will also be held at a later date at St. Patrick Church in Camp Grove with graveside for burial of ashes in St. Patrick Cemetery in Camp Grove. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Colleen P. Dries Scholarship Fund for Adult Education c/o CEFCU, 427 S.
