Obituary for Theresa M. Ward

PEORIA - Theresa M. Ward, 86, of Peoria passed away peacefully at 11:22 a.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015, at home with her family nearby. Theresa was born on Sept. 30, 1928, in Peoria to the late Leonard Jack and D. Lucille (Rutherford) Murray. She was married to William R. Ward on June 12, 1948, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Peoria Heights. He preceded her in death in December 1984. She was also preceded in death by a brother. Her survivors include her children, Patrick (Kitty) Ward, Kathy (Wally) Harper, and Timothy (Sue) Ward all of Peoria, and Colleen (Ken) Hillard of Chillicothe; 15 grandkids; 22 great-grandkids; one sister, Mary (John) Hindert of Lady Lake, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Lois Ward of Peoria; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graduate of Woodruff High School, Theresa was the yearbook editor during her senior year. Theresa was a member of Holy Family Parish, its Mary and Martha Society, and the Catholic Women’s League. She also belonged to the IVY Club and the Creve Coeur Club. She was a founding member of the South Side Office of Concern. She was a former director of the Neighborhood House and South Side Trust & Savings Bank. She was also on an advisory board for St. Jude. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Franciscan Friars will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Peoria. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Friends may sign the online guestbook or send private condolences by logging onto
