Obituary for Michael J. Manning

Michael J. Manning, age 60, of Dahlonega, GA, formerly of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 in Dahlonega. He was born February 25, 1954 in Peoria to Lois M. (Wilson) and Robert E. Manning, Jr. They preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Matt) Stone and six grandchildren: Miles, Jensenn, Payton, Tate, Hayden and Carsyn, all of Washington, IL; his sisters Laurie (Tom) Donlan of Aurora, IL, Linda Manning of Peoria, and Angie (Dan) Aeschliman of Dunlap; brothers Bob (Kristen), Jim, and Paul (Katie) Manning, all of Peoria. Also surviving are 17 nieces and nephews, 2 great nieces, and numerous cousins. Mike graduated from Spalding Institute in 1972 and attended Alexander City College in Alabama on a golf scholarship. He returned to Peoria to work at Caterpillar before moving to Florida to pursue a lifelong career in golf. He worked at a number of courses including Emerald Hill, Sterling, IL, PGA Tour/Golf Club of Miami, FL, Muirfield Group/Golf Club, Miami, FL, Turnberry Isle, Miami, FL, and Achasta Golf Club and Resort, Dahlonega, GA. Mike had a gift for building and repairing custom and classic clubs. Mike’s passions were his family, golfing with his father, brothers and friends every chance he could, and collecting golf memorabilia as far back as the 1900’s. He loved the music of Dan Fogelberg, which he passed on to his daughter, siblings and oldest granddaughter. A private service was held in his honor.
