Obituary for Rita K. Harms

PEORIA – Rita K. Harms, 90, of Peoria passed away at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014, at Buehler Home. Rita was born on October 3, 1923, in El Paso, to Arch and Loretta (Cleary) Haas. She married Jay E. Harms on May 3, 1947, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2010. She is survived by her five children, Dr. James (Ellen) of Champaign, Jay (Nancy), Suzanne Himes, John and Allen all of Peoria; ten grandchildren, Stephen (Jessica) Harms, Dr. Leslie (Joseph) Rydberg, Jill Harms, Johanna Harms, Jennifer (Michael) Mahle, Robert (Kristie) Harms, Kathryn (Daniel) Reilly, Spencer Himes, Audrey (John) Van Dyke and Lindsay Harms; and seven great-grandchildren. Rita was a graduate from Academy of Our Lady and Browns Business College. She worked for the Army Air Corps in Dayton, Ohio, during World War II, Hyster Company, and Standard Sheet Metal. She was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, where she was a lifelong volunteer. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross, Cub Scouts, and 4-H. Rita was a great lady. Her life exhibited the highest ideals of love of family, God, and country. She was an exceptional example for all who knew her. We would like to thank the fine staff at Buehler Home for the extraordinary care and affection they have shown for Rita and her family. A memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2014, at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Fr. David Richardson will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 – 5 p.m. Sunday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Cremation rites have been accorded. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
