Obituary for Marie Bill

PEORIA - Marie Bill, 96, of Peoria passed away at 2 a.m. Friday Feb. 27, 2015, at her residence surrounded by family. Marie was born Oct. 22, 1918, in rural Washington, Ill., to the late William Louis and Caroline (Hoffer) May. On Apr. 6, 1940, she married Earl Spainhower Bill at St. Monica Catholic Church in East Peoria. He preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Willard May. Survivors include one son, Raymond (Claudia) Bill of Pekin; one daughter, Christine Bill of Converse, Tex.; two grandsons, Jeremy (Stacy) Bill of Goodyear, Ariz., and Jeffrey (Shantel) Bill of Charleston, Mass.; granddaughter, Jennifer (Geoffrey) Hamm of Larkspur, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Bernadean May of Peoria; as well as, longtime caregiver and friend, Tina Carpenter. Marie worked as a professional secretary retiring from Peoria High School in 1977, after 18 years with District 150. Prior to that time, she was associated with Hyster Company for many years. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church since 1973, where she was a long time volunteer and member of the Mary and Martha Society. Prior to 1973, she and her family had been very active at St. Bernard Catholic Church and School in Peoria for 20 years. Marie was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 8662, serving as president, secretary and historian. In 1997, she assisted in the development of the Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association, serving as secretary and secretary-treasurer until 2014. She was also an election judge for the City of Peoria for 25 years. She was a life member of both the Illinois and the National Associations of Education Office Professionals, the Illinois League of Municipal Employees and both the VFW Auxiliary and the VFW National Home at Eaton Rapids, Mich. She was a charter member of the Peoria Association of Educational Office Professionals and the Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association, an auxiliary member of Caterpillar Retirees Club and member of the Chicago Cubs and the Peoria Chiefs Booster Clubs. A funeral Mass will be at 12 p.m. Friday, Mar. 6, 2015, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Franciscan Friars will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Entombment will take place in Resurrection Mausoleum. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
