Obituary for Maurice "Jim" James Salmon
Peoria- Maurice James Salmon, 88, of Peoria, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 7:35 pm at Unity Point Proctor Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born February 15, 1929 in Peoria to Maurice and Cora Burke Salmon, Jim married Joanne Friedman on June 10, 1950 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are six children, Kathy (Ike) Comte of Mayfield, KY, Nancy (Dennis) Winne of Peoria, Tim (Cindy) Salmon of Germantown Hills, IL, Susie (Jeff) Smith of Marengo, IL, Matt (Beth) Salmon of Dunlap, IL, Mike (Becki) Salmon of Germantown Hills, IL; twenty grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, one niece Molly Burroughs and one nephew Scott McCallen.
Jim was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy McCallen, one granddaughter Sarah Salmon, and one nephew Mark McCallen.
He and his father worked for Boland Mortuary, leaving in 1954 to form Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Jim was a licensed funeral director for 68 years who loved vacationing in Florida and was an avid golfer.
He was a member of the 3rd Degree Spalding Council Knights of Columbus #427, Order of Alhambra, Ancient Order of Hibernians, St. Patrick's Society, former member of Illinois Funeral Director's Association, National Funeral Director's Association, and Federated Funeral Director's of America. Jim was also a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church in Peoria.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018 between the hours of 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Philomena Catholic Church with an additional visitation being held 30 minutes prior to mass. Father David Richardson and Father James Pallardy will officiate and burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria.
Memorials in Jim’s memory may be made to The Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception Retirement Fund or Easter Seals.
