Obituary for Arthur William Gilinsky
Peoria- Arthur William Gilinsky, age 91, peacefully passed away the afternoon of Christmas Day, 2017 at Cornerstone Healthcare in Peoria Heights.
Arthur was born November 30, 1926 in Worcester, MA., a son of William and Mary (Snyder) Gilinsky. He married Rosemary Schultz at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Peoria, in 1946. She preceded him in death in 1975. He then, in 1978, married Josephine Stubbs, she passed in 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Francis.
Art is survived by his two children; Nancy (Jay) Grimm of Brimfield and Jim (Pam) Gilinsky of Peoria, eight grandchildren; Sean (Kaya) Grimm, Erica (David) Choberka, Jason Grimm, Matthew (Nicole) Gilinsky, Adam Gilinsky, Stephanie (Josh) Corkron, Kristy (Matt) Vahle, Deborah (Jeremy) Carpenter, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Art was a Navy veteran, proudly serving as a gunner, on a bomber in the Pacific during WWII. During the Korean War, he served on the USS Princeton (aircraft carrier). He worked for Muirson Label Co./International Paper Co. from 1949 (with that small interruption in Korea) until his retirement in 1991. He was a past president of GCUI Local #68.
Art was a lover of outdoors and good food, and stayed physically active and alert until the last few months of his life.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, with a one hour prior visitation. Msgr. Stanley Deptula will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria, IL.
