Obituary for Kathleen "Joanne" Landon

Joanne Landon, 93, died peacefully, in Peoria, on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 14, 2023.

Joanne was born in Peoria to Russell Myatt and Anastasia (Bloom) Myatt and lived in Peoria all her life. She went to the Academy of Our Lady for high school and graduated as Valedictorian of her class. She attended Bradley University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1952. She was a proud member of Chi Omega sorority.

Joanne was predeceased by her husband, Louis Landon. They met at Bradley in a Geology class and were married for 64 years. Joanne often joked that she found Lou under a rock. Joanne’s father, husband, and son, Tom operated Calihan Pork Processors in Peoria for over 80 years. She is survived by her 4 children: Kathleen Landon Pankanin (Jim) of Bellevue, WA, Dr. James Landon (Tammy) of Colgate, WI, John Landon (Ellie) of Plano, TX, and Thomas Landon (Lilie) of Dunlap, IL. Joanne was a loving Grandmother to 12 grandchildren (Katie, Sean, Carly, Kevin, Tory, Jake, Josh, Maddie, Ana, Rusty, Louis and Haley) and 6 great-grandchildren (Mikey, Campbell, Reagan, Emma, Robert and Jimmy).

Joanne loved cross stitch and all her grandchildren still have her handmade Christmas stockings proudly displayed during the Holidays. She loved to travel, play bridge and was happiest when sharing a big meal with her children and grandchildren. Joanne was a devout Catholic, attending Holy Family and St Philomena parishes over the years. Joanne married Lou at St. Philomena in the “cold lunch room” before the current church was built. Joanne and Lou spent many winters at their condo at Ft Myers Beach, Florida which they really enjoyed. They were members of Mt. Hawley Country Club for 58 years.

The family would like to thank all the staff, nurses, and aides at Buehler Home for many years of support and caregiving for Joanne. A special thank you goes out to Angie, her loving companion and caretaker in Joanne’s final years.

Visitation will be at Wright & Salmon Mortuary on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, May 19, 2023 at St. Philomena Catholic Church at 10:30 AM, with a half hour prior visitation. Fr. David Richardson will officiate. Private Entombment will be at Resurrection Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St Philomena Catholic Church and School.
