Obituary for Raymond Graham "Ray" Maginn
Raymond Graham "Ray" Maginn, 92, of Peoria passed away December 1, 2017 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, Illinois.
Ray was born in St.Louis, MO to Adeline (Kreutzer) and Raymond Maginn. Ray's father died at an early age, and Ray and his brother were raised by his loving mother and aunt. Upon graduation from Wellston High School, Ray joined the US Navy, serving as an Ensign. During that time, Ray graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BS in Naval Science. Throughout his high school and college career, Ray was an avid athlete, excelling in baseball, basketball and football. Ray played for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks in the first Gator Bowl in 1946. Ray was a member of SIgma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Ray later graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, MO with a degree in accounting. Ray worked as a CPA in St Louis and Quincy, Il, before moving to Peoria in 1963. Ray worked for CILCO (Central Illinois Light Co) for over 25 years and retired after serving as the utility's controller and treasurer.Â
Ray was preceded in death by his wife Violet D. (Hicks). Their two children, Pamela (Recher) and Michael survive them. Also surviving them are two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ray was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard F. Maginn of Little Rock, AR.
In recent years, Ray lived at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria. During his retirement, Ray was an active volunteer with Central Illinois Friends of PWA. Ray was loved by his family, and especially enjoyed time spent with his son, Mike, who lives in Peoria and the visits of his daughter, 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren from out-of-town.
Cremation rights have been accorded and a community memorial service is planned at the Waters of Life Chapel at Lutheran Hillside Village, 6901 Galena Road, on January 21,2018 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at the Camp Butler National Cemetery, in Springfield, Illinois at a private family ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Hillside Village "LHV Benevolent Fund".
