Obituary for Dick Caldwell

PEORIA ~ Richard Joseph Caldwell, 90, of Peoria, IL passed away peacefully to heaven on Thursday, March 16, 2023 in his home. By his side was his dear wife, Marlene and family. Richard “Dick” was a loving, compassionate, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Dick was born October 11, 1932 in Peoria to Clyde "Dick" and Margaret (Rohman) Caldwell.  His parents preceded him in death.

He attended St. Mary’s Grade School, Spalding High School, and Plumbers Local #63.

Dick and Marlene met in high school, Marlene attended the Academy and Dick attended Spalding. They first met playing ping pong at the Catholic Youth Center. Marlene went home that night and told her mother that she had met the man she would marry. Dick and Marlene have enjoyed playing ping pong with their family ever since.

Dick served in the United States Air Force for four years at the time of the Korean War. He was a part of the Local Plumbers Union #63 and was the owner and operator of Caldwell Plumbing and Heating, along with his wife Marlene, who was his secretary and bookkeeper for thirty years.

Dick and Marlene were married for 69 years and shared many loving memories with one another and their family. His adoring family always came first. His favorite times were family gatherings, especially the cookouts around the pool. Dick was always there for his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dick also enjoyed his large collection of model trains. He spent many hours perfecting his train layout to share and enjoy with his family.

Dick and his wife, Marlene, immensely enjoyed helping Julie with her business, Peoria Estate Sales. Dick and Marlene enjoyed helping Julie from the very beginning.

He will be greatly missed by those who loved him. His family is very blessed that they had him in their lives. He was the best husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather a family could ever ask for.

Surviving are his wife, Marlene; one son, Richard (Colleen) Caldwell Jr.; five daughters, Therese (Rob) Keller, Julie (Steve Huxtable) Revallo, Mary (Mark-deceased) Stephenson, Kathleen (Gary) Davis and Jennifer (Chad) Vonachen; fifteen grandchildren, Brittany, Emily, Kimberly, Lindsay, Christie, Robbie, Nikkie, Timmie, Johnny, Jessica, Emily, Adam, Ben, Brandon and Anna.
