Obituaries
Ken Goldin, 86, of Peoria, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2023 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
Ken was born on August 20, 1936, in Boston, MA, the son of Sol and Doris Goldin. Ken proudly served in the US Army from 1955-1958 in the Security Agency Division. He married the love of his life, Pat Goldin, on August 8, 1964 in La Salle, IL.
Together, Ken and Pat were blessed with two daughters, Molly (Paul) Winkler of Peoria, IL and Kelly (Tony) Stucker of San Mateo, CA; four cherished grandsons, John (Tori) and Patrick (Mariel Singson) Winkler and Foley and Aidan Stucker and one great granddaughter, Ann Ruth Winkler.
Ken attended Oak Park River Forest High School in Oak Park, IL and graduated from Quincy High School in Quincy, MA. He graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelor of Science in Management ('64) and a Master’s of Science in Secondary Education ('72).
Ken spent his entire 50-year career at Bradley University, beginning as a Custodian in the Student Center before becoming the Director of Housing, the Director of Auxiliary Services and, finally, the University's Business Manager. But his actual job title barely scratched the surface of his contributions to Bradley. Ken will long be remembered for emceeing the Bradley Basketball luncheons, planning the Bradley Basketball fan trips and being one of the most memorable ambassadors that Bradley will ever have.
He also gave generously of his time to his adopted hometown of Peoria. He held many civic board positions, including Trustee of Peoria Park District, Chair of Take Pride In Peoria, Vice-Chairman of Peoria Civic Center Authority, Director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Peoria, Board Advisory Member of Crittenton Care and Counseling Center, Board of Trustee of Peoria Notre Dame and Commissioner of Peoria Liquor. He also served as the President of two professional organizations: the National Association College Auxiliary Service (NACAS) and the Central Association College Auxiliary Services (CACAS).
Ken received several distinguished awards throughout his life, including the Service Appreciation Award presented by the Bradley student body and the Francis C. Mergen Memorial Award.
When Ken wasn't cursing at his beloved Chicago Cubs, he was either playing Texas Hold ‘Em or plotting his next sports wager (and sometimes all three at the same time).
We would like to thank Janet LaHood for being a close friend of Dad’s for the past 20 years. Additionally, we would like to thank the wonderful nurses from Nurses Caring for People, Unity Point Hospice and OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home who took such great care of Dad these past few months.
Ken never met a stranger and considered all of you his dear friends.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church from 9:00 AM until time of Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Father Stephen Willard will officate. Following services, a celebration of life will immediately follow at Lariat Steakhouse. A private family burial will take place later in the day.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials in Ken’s memory may be made to the Bradley University Pat and Ken Goldin Scholarship Fund.
