Obituary for James "Jim" E. Gilles
Morton- James “Jim” E. Gilles, age 67, passed away at 2:30 PM, Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Jim was born October 31, 1950 in Peoria, IL., a son of Frank E. and Darlene (Toft) Gilles. He married Rebecca “Becky” J. Hopwood on February 17, 1973 in Peoria. They were happily married for 44 years.
Jim proudly served in the Army National Guard and graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He spent his entire career at Midwest Foundation Corporation, retiring as Vice-President.
He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt deer, turkey and ducks. He also enjoyed trap shooting. He was a member of the Kickapoo Sportsman's Club, the Tremont Sportsmans Club and the National Wild Turkey Federation.
Jim loved spending time with all of his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Gilles of Morton, IL.; son, Scott (Angela) Gilles of Morton; daughter, Sarah (James) Morrison of Norfolk, VA.; four grandchildren, Kyle and Ava Gilles and Lila and Emma Morrison; brother, John (Chris) Gilles of Kickapoo; four sisters, Mary Jo (Floyd) Potter of Princeville, Peg (Richard) Miller of Williamsfield, Pat (Ernie) Rosecrans and Julie (Tom) Groeper, both of Kickapoo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Brian Rosecrans.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Morton, IL. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 1, 2017, at the church, with a visitation one half hour prior to the Mass. Msgr. Gerald Ward will officiate and burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Kickapoo, IL.
