Obituary for Julia T. McGrath
Julia Tuerk McGrath, 67, of Peoria, IL passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, in Peoria.
Julia was born July 6, 1955, in Peoria, to Charles W. and Margaret M. Tuerk. Julia married the love of her life, Timothy J. McGrath on April 13, 1985 in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving are 4 sons, Patrick J. McGrath of Virginia, Nicholas (Petronilo) Franco-McGrath of Los Angeles, Mark J. McGrath of Peoria Heights and Timothy C. McGrath of Peoria, as well as her beloved four-legged companion, Shandy. Also surviving are one sister, Marcia Hildebrand of Peoria, 4 brothers, Ed (Jan) Tuerk of Peoria, Fred (Terri) Tuerk of Los Altos, CA, Joe (Rose) Tuerk of East Peoria and Jim (Maribeth) Tuerk of Alpharetta, GA and numerous loved nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Janet Tuerk in 1979 and her infant son, Michael.
Julia was a graduate of Academy of our Lady in 1973, and attended ISU, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in teaching. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Development. She loved teaching and loved every student she came into contact with. She taught at Valeska Hinton In Peoria with her amazing fellow teachers. She formed many strong friendships and will be deeply missed.
Julia was involved in CURSILLO and was a lector at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.
Julia was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother and teacher. She was a generous friend, with her time, treasures, talents, her faith and her love for God, family and friends.
Visitation will be from 4 – 6 PM on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. A Memorial Mass will be at 10 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, with a half hour prior visitation. Msgr. Brian Brownsey will officiate and Private burial of ashes will take place at Resurrection Mausoleum.
