Obituary for Evelyn M. Starr
Evelyn M. Starr passed away peacefully late in the evening of September 21, 2017 at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria IL.

Evelyn lived a full life as a student, a wife, a mother, a cheerful friend to so many, a corporate secretary, and a hospital volunteer, spanning residences across the globe from Peoria to Germany.

Evelyn was born in Peoria in 1925 to her father John and mother Osha. Although she lost her father early in life, Evelyn formed the deepest of bonds with her mother Osha that lasted her lifetime through the Depression years, the war years, and the decades from the 1950s to the 1990s as Evelyn raised her own family. A graduate of Manual High School, Evelyn worked at Caterpillar, where she met her future husband Albert Starr, an engineer and Army officer veteran of World War II and the Korea War, whom she married in July 1947. Evelyn lived in Germany as part of the American defense of post-war Europe during the Korean War years, and raised a family of three children, Gregory, Susan and Jeffrey.

Evelyn found time to volunteer for 15 years at Proctor Hospital, now known as Unity Point Hospital, and to study business and economics at Illinois Community College. She was an enthusiastic member of the Red Hat Society, a charter member of the St. Vincent de Paul Church, an avid participant in water aerobics at her health club, a loyal attendee at her Manual High School reunions, a savvy bridge player and even a Florida snowbird for several years. But the joy of her life was living with Albert in the home they built in 1958 and raising her children, protecting them during their developing years, encouraging them in studies, sports and scouting, counseling them with her wisdoms, and launching them into the world.

Evelyn is survived by her children Greg (Ina), Jeff (Barbara) and Susan, three grandchildren Marita Bomberg, Kara Roney and Jena Starr, and one great-grandson Owen Bomberg. She was preceded in death by Albert, her beloved husband of 69 years. Evelyn spent her last year at Lutheran Hillside Village, winning many admirers for her trademark gentle smile, Panama Jack straw hats and sunglasses. She will be missed by family, friends and fellow residents alike.

Cremation rites will be accorded by Wright & Salmon Mortuary. There will be no visitation. A private family service will be held at Resurrection Mausoleum.
