Obituary for William J Larson

William Joseph Larson, 85, of Peoria died on October 16, 2011 at the home of his daughter in Naperville, IL. He was born November 25, 1925, in LaSalle, IL, to Carroll and Sarah (Gibbons) Larson. He married Catherine Flannery on July 6, 1946, in LaSalle. Surviving are his wife, Catherine; two daughters, Karen Williams of Bemidji, MN, and Diane (Mark) Ingolia of Naperville; three sons, Robert (Teresa) Larson of Peoria, Steven (Dianne) Larson of Rockford, and Richard (Sharon) Larson of Atchison, KS; one brother, Don (Marian) Larson of Ohio, one sister, Mary Jane (Stuart) Richardson of North Carolina, one sister-in-law, Frances Larson of Bloomington, IL; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Art, Mel, and Pat, and one grandson, David. Bill served in the Navy during World War II, and participated in the invasion of Okinawa in the south Pacific. He was proud of the fact that he and all four of his brothers served in combat and fortunately returned home safely. After the war Bill attended Bradley University. He graduated in 1953 with degrees in horology and business administration. He remained in Peoria as a jeweler for many years, before opening his own store. He retired, closing Larson Jewelers in 1991. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus Spalding Council #206, a past member of the Knights of Columbus Bowling Team, and a member of The Disabled American Veterans and American Legion Post # 2. A funeral Mass will be 10:00AM Thursday, October 20th at Holy Family Catholic Church with visitation at the Church one hour before the service. Interment will be at Resurrection Mausoleum.
