Obituary for William "Bill" L. Connett
Peoria- William “Bill” L. Connett, 76, of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 10:26 p.m. at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
Born February 26, 1941 in Peoria to Orville and Virginia Reed Connett, he married Mary Kathleen Hancock on September 2, 1967 in Peoria. She passed away October 8, 2000 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Bill is survived by his two sons, William (Leslie) of Chillicothe and James of Peoria. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Liam(15), Brogan(13), Nora(10), and Ruby(7).
He was a man with many hobbies and interests. He spent his summers at the family cottage in Pentwater, MI. He was an avid fisherman, and was very proud of his boat “The Wet Willy.” He enjoyed watching sports, hockey being his favorite. He coached little league for many years and was in numerous bowling leagues. He loved music and enjoyed being a DJ for parties. He also taught guitar lessons and was very proud of his music collection. He also had a love for his many beagles through the years. He leaves behind his dearly beloved beagle, Ginger.
Bill attended Bradley University and served 8 years with the US Coast Guard Reserve, from 1963-1971. He then attended the U of I Police Training Academy. He spent 26 years on the Peoria Police Department, retiring in 1991. While on the force he earned many awards, he was most proud of his life saving award.
Bill was a lifetime member of the Illinois Police Association, the American Legion Post #2, and an American Bowling Congress Member. He was also a member of the Michigan Steelheaders, the Pentwater Sportsfishing Association and First United Methodist Church on North Perry in Peoria.
Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Wright & Salmon, with a half hour prior visitation. Pastor Stephen Barch will officiate. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
