Obituary for William A. Manning

PEORIA-William A. Manning, 73 of Peoria passed away at 12:40 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at Proctor Hospital. He was born on September 24, 1933 in Peoria to Russell and Lucille Clifford Manning. He married Joan T. Brezina on September 3, 1955 in Chicago. She survives. He is also survived by four children, Maria (Kingford) Bavender of Chaska, MN, Catherine (Andrew Amer) Manning of New York, NY, Stephen (Margaret) Manning of Montclair, NJ and Carolyn (Michael) Casella of Downers Grove, IL; one brother, Daniel (Sharon) Manning of Peoria; and 9 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ann I. McQuellon. He was a graduate of Spalding Institute and the University of Illinois. Bill was an estimator and project manager for Russell A. Manning Construction and V. Jobst & Sons. He was Vice President of Estimating for Tousley Iber Construction Company. In 1986, he founded Manning McEnroe, his own construction cost consulting firm. He retired in 2000. He was very active in the Greater Peoria Contractors & Suppliers Association including serving as president. He was instrumental in establishing multi-craft bargaining in the area and the Construction Action Committee. He was also a major in the U.S. Army Reserves, 470th Transportation Battalion. He was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church and it’s Men’s Club, St Brendan’s Division and Peoria Skeet and Trap Club. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Philomena Church with Rev. Donald Henderson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary and 30 minutes before the mass at church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria.
