Obituary for Wayne R. Katus

PEORIA – Wayne R. Katus, 87, of Peoria died at 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at Morton Terrace Care Center. Wayne was born on Nov. 19, 1926, in Peoria to Frank and Marie (Turner) Katus. He married Olga M. Sainz on Aug. 19, 1950, in Peoria. She survives. He is also survived by his children, Mary Jo Welch, Tom (Darlene) Katus, Lilia “Tickie” Chase, Kitty (Fred) Jones, and Peter (Nancy) Katus all of Peoria, Terry (Steve) Kats of Indianapolis, Ind., Pat Katus of Bartonville, Peggy (Jeff) Fortenbery of Cincinnati, Ohio, Olga (Bill) Leeds of DeLong, Ill., and Tina (Greg) Barth of Brimfield; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and brother, Frank (Betty) Katus of Peoria. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jacque; one daughter-in-law, Kathryn Katus; and one infant grandson. Wayne was a graduate of Woodruff High School and Bradley University. He was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He later worked for the Insurance Company of North America and retired from the Peoria Home Bank. He was an original member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was the last charter member of the Catholic Dartball League. He was very active in numerous ways at Holy Family, most recently as a Eucharistic Minister. Prior to his nursing home stay, Wayne resided at St. Augustine Manor in Peoria. A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Peoria. Franciscan Friars will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the Church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Entombment of ashes will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Holy Family School or the Alzheimer’s Association. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
