Obituary for Walter "Walt" E. Eisele

PEORIA – Walter E. “Walt” Eisele, 95, of Peoria passed away at 2:35 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at Buehler Home. Walt was born on May 24, 1919, in Peoria to Caspar and Antoinette (Waterman) Eisele. He married Gertrude M. Teesdale on Dec. 9, 1944, at St. John Catholic Church. They raised their family on West Crestwood, where they lived for 62 years. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude of Peoria; two daughters, Christine Eisele Graham of St. Louis and Gretchen (James) Meyer of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Stacy Lynn Hendron and Patrick James Graham; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl “Spike” Eisele and John H. “Booty” Eisele; and one grandson, Michael J. Graham. Walt was a World War II Army veteran, spending 2 1/2 years in the Panama Canal Zone. He later worked as an electrician for 65 years through IBEW Local #34, last working for George Brown Electric. He was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church. He was also a member and past president of the Independent Sportsman’s Club and, along with George “Ducky” Anthony, co-founded Friends of Fatherless Boys. In 1992, he was a co-winner of the Neve Harms Meritorius Service to Sports Award. Walt enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, golf and bowling. A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Father David Richardson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior tot the Mass at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of ashes will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Friends of Fatherless Boys, Peoria Easter Seals, or St. Philomena School Endowment Fund.
