Obituary for Walter "Wally" Allen White

PEORIA Walter Wally Allen White, 79, of Peoria passed away at 3:35 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015, in the comfort of his home.
Wally was born Dec. 5, 1935, in Peoria and was raised by his father and mother, Walter J. and Sarah Jane (Paschon) White. He graduated from Manual High School in 1953, where he played baseball. On Feb. 11, 1967, he married Beverly Anderson. She preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2015.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Pat (1967).
Surviving are his sister, Mary Jane (Jeffrey) Johnson of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; his sons, Melvin (Stephanie) Anderson of Chillicothe and Marc (Bob Connolly) White of Philadelphia, Pa.; his daughter, Kathy (Jon Norris) White of London Mills; three grandchildren, Sabre and Tyler (and their mother, Shari Anderson) and Reuben Lima; and three great-grandchildren, Payton and Aidan Morris (and their father, Mike) and Isabella Geskey (and her father, Craig).
Wally worked as a foreman in the powerhouse of Hiram Walker and Archer Daniels Midland, fully retiring in 2010.
He was very athletic and loved racquetball, golf, baseball and softball. Wally was one of the top fast pitch softball players in the Peoria area in the late 50s and 60s, playing against some of the best competition in the country. He was an excellent golfer, enjoyed hunting golf balls with his dog Trixie and watching golfers from his yard swing. He was also an avid racquetball player and played weekly at Landmark up through his early 70s. He was a strong, disciplined man until the very end.
Wally will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was known for his love of dogs and his ability to lovingly tease his wife, Bev. He was a proud homeowner who could fix almost anything and was frequently seen working in his yard. He and Bev particularly enjoyed trips to Disneyworld with their family and watching the many sports accomplishments of sons, Mel and Marc, and grandson, Tyler, in their later years.
The family would like to thank Wallys committed family and friends who frequently visited him at his home, helping make his final years enjoyable and nostalgic. They would especially like to thank neighbors, John and Becky; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Jeffrey; sister-in-law, Judie, and her husband, Jim; niece, Jody; cousin, Joyce, and her husband, Ralph; and friends, Ronnie, Chuck, Randy, Ron and Zeb; as well as all his racquetball buddies at Landmark.
A very heartfelt thanks goes to son, Mel Anderson, who was caretaker for both his parents in later years, providing Wally the invaluable gift of living out his journey with dignity and happiness in the comfort of his own home. Likewise, many thanks go to Wallys neighbor and loyal friend, John Kelly, who was there for Wally over the years.
Wallys family will greet friends and family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015, at Wright Salmon Mortuary on North Street in Peoria. A celebration ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015, at the funeral home with an additional visitation 30 minutes prior to the service. Pastor Craig Hislope will officiate. Burial will follow in Parkview Cemetery on University.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
