Obituary for Walter H. Hanlon
Walter H. Hanlon age 90, of Peoria, IL passed away at 4:57 a.m. on Sunday, August 20th, 2017 at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton, IL.
Born August 3, 1927 in Peoria County to Herbert and Emma (Kirchgessner) Hanlon. He married B. Joe Ann Poggi on November 29, 1952 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Peoria. She survives along with three daughters, Debra L. (David) Van Hise, Lori J. (Keith) Taylor both of Peoria and Lisa A. (Troy) Purvis of Louisville, KY. One brother John F.(Faye) Hanlon of West Virginia. One sister Eileen M. Siegle of Bedford, IN. Two grandchildren, Matthew W. Van Hise and Nicholas W. Van Hise. Two step-grandchildren Derrick (Angie) Purvis and Melissa Purvis and five step-great-grandchildren. Two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
He proudly served in the Korean War as a Master/Sergeant in the Army Infantry. Walt worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co.; retiring in 1986 from plant security with thirty-eight years of service. He then worked for the Elmwood Police Department for eleven years. During these years he also worked part-time sales for Pabst Brewing Company, was Chief of Limestone Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Illinois Police Association, and a thirty-five year member of Troopers Lodge #41. F.O.P. He belonged to Masonic Lodge Alta #748 Mohammed Shriners and Scottish Rite, Valley of Peoria, The El Hajj Caravanserai #6, American Legion #2, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Walt was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved to talk about his family, especially his grandchildren. A hard working man known for his positivity, quick humor and a kind and generous heart. He loved to talk` and make new friends. Two favorite pastimes were maintaining his picturesque timber and acreage property and listening to his favorite music.

Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 at St. Mary's Church in Kickapoo, IL. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017 at St. Mary's Church in Kickapoo, IL, with a half-hour prior visitation. Fr. Joseph Dondanville will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Kickapoo, IL.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, Mohammed Shriners Hospital or a charity of your choice.
