Obituary for Walter Anthony Kuecks
PEORIA – Walter Anthony Kuecks, 81, of Peoria passed away at 4:50 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Walter was born on Sept. 22, 1934, in Peoria to the late Walter Fred and Rose Josephine (Kugler) Kuecks. He married Janet Leigh Bailey on June 21, 1959. She survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, Regina L. (James) Kuecks-Morgan of Providence, R.I., Barbara F. (Richard) Murphy of Washington, and Yvonne L. Kuecks of Peoria; and four grandchildren, Ryan Murphy, Evan (Elizabeth) Murphy, Arielle Morgan, and Zane Kuecks.
Walter graduated from Woodruff High School and was a Navy veteran, serving from 1953 to 1978 (active duty of four years and in the reserves for 20 years) and attaining the rank of petty officer 1st class. He worked as a quality control supervisor at Caterpillar, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, American Legion Post #2, and the Fleet Reserve Association. He was a former member and past commander of the Navy Club of Peoria – Ship 34. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Spalding Council #427, Third Degree, where he was a past Grand Knight, and Knights of Columbus, Spalding Assembly #206, Fourth Degree. He was a past Grand Commander Ziryab Caravan 52 Order of Alhambra.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016, at Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel. Msgr. Brian Brownsey will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the mausoleum. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum with full military rites.
