Obituary for WIlliam G. "Bill" Knight
Peoria- William G. “Bill” Knight, age 95, of Peoria, passed away at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 28, 2017 at Lutheran Hillside Village.
Born June 27, 1922 in Ogle County, IL, he was the son to Rosten and Della McClain-Knight. Bill went to a one-room grade school and was a graduate of Rochelle High School Class of 1940. He served honorably in the United States Army during World War II, entering into the Army in 1942. He worked as a radio operator 3rd Army and was stationed in Sierning, Austria on VE Day.
On April 02, 1948 Bill married Regina E. Cox in Lee, IL. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2015. He attended Bradley University and graduated in 1950 with a BA in Business. He worked for Cilco as an industrial lighting consultant until his retirement in 1982.
Bill’s favorite past time was trap shooting and was a longtime member of Peoria Skeet and Trap Club. Over the years he won several trophies but was proudest of winning his class when he broke 98 out of 100 targets at age 92. Bill was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was loved and will be truly missed.
Survivors include one son Thomas W. Knight of Douglasville, GA; two grandsons, Carter and Charles Knight; as well as, two great-grandsons, Ramsey and Ethan.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 9:30 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Father Alexander Millar will officiate and burial will follow in St. James Calvary Cemetery in Lee, IL.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Bill’s memory may be made to Sophia’s Kitchen.
