Virginia A. “Ginny” Grubisich, 93, of Peoria, IL passed away at 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018.

She was born on her grandparents’ farm in rural Rushville, IL on August 18, 1924. She moved with her parents to Canton, IL, where she grew up.  She was the oldest child of Harold R. and Gladys L. Busby Haffner.  She married the love of her life, Frederic A. Grubisich, on October 15, 1942 in Kahoka, MO, a WWII bride.

Ginny shared her birthday and was named after Virginia Dare, the first American child born of English parents in 1587.

Surviving are her two children, Gerald “Jerry” (and Marilyn) Grubisich of Canton and MaryAnne (and Larry) Mowbray of Kewanee, IL.  Her grandchildren: Scott Grubisich of Champaign, IL, Mary Grubisich of Ft. Myers, FL, Jeff (and Susan) Mowbray of Dunlap, IL, Christopher Mowbray of Kewanee and one step-grandson, Patrick Mowbray of Bradenton, FL.  Also surviving are her great-granddaughters who brought her great happiness: Taylor, Lauren, Sarah, and Emily. Her sister, Betty Herring of Canton, also survives her, plus many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Fred on March 1, 2004, brothers, Charles and Wayne Haffner, and one sister, Bonnie Bartel.

Ginny was an enthuastic card player, playing with friends, family, and multiple card clubs over the years. She enjoyed reading, watching PGA golf, traveling, and had a strong passion for gardening and an immaculate yard.

A special thanks to her two special neighbors, Ward and Alma, who watched over Mom, as well as the compassionate staff at Rosewood Health Care Center and her many card-playing friends who made her life so enjoyable.

She was a member of St. Philomena Parish where a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 5, 2018, with a one hour prior visitation. Fr. David Richardson will officiate. Graveside Service and burial will be held at 2:30 PM at St. Joseph Cemetery in Canton IL.
