Obituary for Virginia A. Stokowski
Virginia A. Stokowski, 96, of Peoria, passed away at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Virginia was born November 26, 1921, in Sioux City, Iowa to Frank and Elizabeth (Stark) Nader. She married John E. Stokowski October 2, 1948, in Kickapoo, IL. He passed away October 29, 1984.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, one son, John S. Stokowski, one grandson, Shane M. Stokowski, three sisters, Agnes (Grawey), Irene, Margaret, and two brothers, George and Kermit.
She is survived by two sons, Joe (Joan), Jeff (Chris), two grandchildren, Patrick (Valerie) and Sheila Stokowski, two sisters Shirley Nader of Bensonville and Dolores & Warren Oppe of Peoria; and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was a member of St. Philomena Parish for over 60 years.
Virginia will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and aunt. She was a devout Catholic who prayed and attended mass daily, if possible. Her love of faith and family was closely followed by her love of baking. Her memory will be carried on in the recipes she passed down.
A visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 22, 2018 at St. Philomena Catholic Church with a half hour prior visitation. Fr. David Richardson will officiate. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria.
