Virgil proudly served his country in The US Air Force and the US Navy. He often shared stories of his time and duties while stationed in England and also his time spent on the USS Coral Sea, sailing in the Mediterranean. After being honorably discharged from the service, he held many jobs in the Peoria area to support his growing family. He later started working for the US Postal Service as a mail carrier, retiring after 32 years of service. In his younger days, Virgil loved to duck hunt, bowl, play softball, and go mushroom hunting. He was an avid sports fan and loved all sports, especially golf and his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He loved being outside and enjoyed working in his yard and took great pride in meticulously tending his lawn and vegetable garden.

Virgil was most proud of his family. He and his sweet smile will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

The family would like to thank the staff at UnityPoint Proctor, especially Brandon, Maggie, Dan, and Megan for their professionalism and excellent care they gave our dad.

Private graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Springdale Cemetery, in Peoria.
