Obituary for Virgil M. Weber

Peoria- Virgil M. Weber, age 90, of Peoria, passed away peacefully at 8:59 AM on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Lutheran Hillside Village.

Born January 12, 1927 in Saunemin, Illinois, he was a son to John Wesley and Teresa (Schmitt) Weber. Virgil honorably served in the United States Navy during WWII from 1944-1946 and was later drafted during the Korean War and served aboard an LST from 1950-1951. On November 26, 1953 Virgil married Dolores Ziegler in Henry, Illinois. She preceded him in death on January 04, 2004.

Virgil obtained his Bachelors Degree in Journalism from the University of Illinois and later his Masters Degree in Education from Illinois State. He taught in East Peoria and later in District 150 until his retirement. He was an avid Illini, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears fan. Virgil enjoyed gardening, feeding his birds and other wildlife. Most importantly Virgil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who loved his family and spending time with them. He was dearly loved and will be truly missed.

Survivors include his three children, Mike (Janet) Weber of Peoria, Ann (Dan) Frank of Morton, and Sue Weber of Peoria; seven grandchildren, Jeff, Brandon (Sarah), Jacob (Jennifer), Wesley, Angela (Seth), Kyle, and Chad; seven great-grandchildren, Kylie Jo, Lila, Gracie, Logan, Remington, Dustin, and Ruby; as well as, one sister Esther Scamehorn of Kearney, Nebraska.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dolores, one son Marc, one grandson Tony, and two brothers, Father Glen Weber, and Harold Weber.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 between the hours of 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM at Wright and Salmon Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Philomena Catholic Church with visitation 30 minutes prior to mass. Father David Richardson will officiate and military honors will be rendered following mass. Cremation rites will follow and burial will take place in Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorials in Virgil’s memory may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or the Sister of Saint Francis Immaculate Conception Convent.
