Obituary for Violet "Ann" Schmitt
KICKAPOO – Violet “Ann” Schmitt, 76, of Kickapoo, passed away peacefully at 4:06 a.m. Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Heddington Oaks in West Peoria. The family would like to extend its thanks to the kind, friendly and compassionate staff that cared for her the past few months.
Ann was born November 15, 1940 in Rosefield Township to Edward & Hilda (Kelch) Schaub. She married James “Jim” Schmitt on January 28, 1967, in Kickapoo. He survives along with their children; Anne Marie (Darin) Hinderman of Peoria, Steve (Annie) Schmitt and Jason Schmitt, both of Brimfield; three brothers, Peter (Cleo) Schaub, Hugh (Denise) Schaub of Brimfield, Gus (Debbie) Schaub of Elmwood; and five grandchildren, Zachary, Leah, Megan, Spencer, and Nate.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Ellen Comisky, brother John Schaub, and a sister in infancy, Katherine.
A lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kickapoo, Ann belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Ann worked at OSF St. Francis patient accounts for 16 years, retiring in 2005.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s on Thursday, March 9 at 10 a.m. The Rev. Joseph Dondanville will officiate. Visitation will take place Wednesday, March 8, from 4-7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Hall with recitation of the rosary following. Visitation will also be 30 minutes prior to services at the church. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Kickapoo.
