Obituary for Tony A. Trad

Tony A. Trad, 76, of East Peoria, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.

Tony was born on April 4, 1946 in Itoo, Lebanon, a son of Assaf and Dalal (Younes) Trad. Tony spent his youth in the Country of Lebanon where he honed his skills as a furniture maker, business owner and instructor. He was gifted with hands that could create and carve ornate and decorative pieces that he sold in Lebanon and the United States.

He married Loba Hage on April 19, 1969 in Itoo. In 1970, he and his wife Loba came to the United States for an opportunity and the chance to become US citizens. She survives.

Tony is also survived by his son, A. Tony (Jessica) Trad of East Peoria, four grandchildren, Tony A.,

Sophia, Gabrielle and Josie Trad, one brother, Pierre (Catherine) Trad of Edwards, two sisters, Alice (the late Charles) Anthony of Pekin, Leila (Abdullah) Haifa of Washington, IL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sue Younes.

It was in Peoria that he started his 35-year career at Caterpillar Inc. He accepted any position that was given to him and worked his way up to machine operator, programmer, and trainer. He had the unique ability to fix any complicated machine and Caterpillar offered him the chance to share his knowledge. After his retirement in 2005, he was hired back as a quality inspector. But it was an opportunity to become an instructor at Illinois Central College that he found his second passion, and that was to help young students learn the art of machining. From manual to complicated computer numerical controlled machines, Tony was able to help a generation of young minds learn an old trade to be able to afford and provide a quality living. He will be remembered as a friend and instructor by many.

Tony was diagnosed with cancer in 2010. He lost a lung, had a heart attack, broke his back and yet continued to fight until the very end.

Tony’s vast knowledge, stories and his ability to be the ultimate provider is now gone. We will miss him.
