Obituary for Tillie S. Feakins

PEORIA-Tillie Elvira Marie Swanson Feakins, 90, of Peoria died at 7:37 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Bel-Wood Nursing Home. She was born March 5, 1919 in Malta, IL, in DeKalb County to Julius and Ida Charlotte Swanson. She married her beloved Pierre C. Feakins on February 9, 1946, in Rockford, IL. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, a half sister who lived in Sweden, and one daughter, Alice Neva Feakins. She is survived by two loving daughters, Charlotte (James) Boylan of Dunlap and Margaret (William) McNinch of Houston; and two grandsons, Gregory Boylan of Belleville, IL and Jeffrey Boylan of Denver. She graduated from DeKalb High School. Tillie was a member of Salem Lutheran Church for more than 50 years, serving on committees and being involved with the Lutheran Church Women at Salem. She volunteered at the Church Mouse for many years. She was a member of the Independent Order of Svithiod - Brage Lodge #29 and Lambda Pi Omicrom. She worked part time for the Peoria Park District and the Veteran’s Affairs office at I.C.C. in the 70’s and 80’s and helped Pierre in his insurance office in the early 90’s. Tillie was a wonderful cook and enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home. Her hospitality and generosity will long be remembered. She and Pierre loved traveling domestically and abroad. Tillie was proud of her Swedish heritage and made many trips to Sweden to visit extended family over the course of 30 years. Tillie loved to shop for shoes, dance with Pierre, play cards, and eat ice cream anytime of day. Everyone knew she loved the music of Lawrence Welk! She will be remembered for her smile and her sincere love of people. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and a kind and caring friend. She survived the ravages of Alzheimer’s Disease with dignity and courage. Funeral services for Tillie are scheduled for Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Salem Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. with Pastor Stephen Barnes officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the services at the church. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
