Obituary for Thomas Steven Frank

On April 23, 2018, Thomas Steven Frank conquered his 25 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease and passed away in peace.

He was born on May 13, 1946 in Peoria, the son of Orville and Sylvia Matarelli Frank. He married the love of his life, Constance (“Connie”) Marie Frank on June 15, 1968 in Peoria, IL. Surviving family includes his wife and two spectacular daughters, Sara (Marc) Brewen of Norfolk, VA and Lisa (Bob) Gates of Peoria, IL; two incredible grandchildren, Alessandra (“Alex”) Gates and William ("Bo") Brewen; his brother, Orville (Linda) Frank of Peoria, IL; sister-in-laws Kathleen (Bob) Hand of Moline, IL and Jacqueline Frank of Peoria, IL; nephews Tom (Amy) Frank, Brian (Kay) Frank, and Dan (Angie) Frank all of Peoria, IL; niece Laura Hand of Minneapolis, MN and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.

A 1964 graduate of Spalding Institute, Tom’s athleticism in football and track were well known and admired. Always quick with a smile and a well-timed one line joke, his warm and generous personality was immediately noticed by every person that met Tom. He was so noticeable and well known, in fact, that Connie was thrilled when he joined her in Miss Walsh’s Ballroom Dancing Class in 1958. They danced together once 60 years ago and never let go.

He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Illinois. In 1968, Tom proudly accepted an officer commission and served in the U.S. Navy.

Tom’s generous heart extended to both people and animals. His strong, proud Italian exterior was matched with unparalleled kindness, compassion for all life, humility and a deep connection to his Catholic faith. Tom’s life well lived involved countless trips to Walloon Lake, MI, fishing and golfing, refurbishing Volkswagen Beetles, and confirming to all who would listen that all one’s soul needs is some good Motown music and Matarelli family inspired Italian dishes.

An accomplished entrepreneur, craftsman, executive and Rotarian, Tom passed along to his daughters a focused drive to earn and appreciate an excellent education and to celebrate life with humor. He wisely anticipated that his daughters would meet husbands who would benefit from careful supervision when trying to fix things, and, therefore, Sara and Lisa each have a well-stocked tool box and the skills to tackle any project.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 26th from 5-7pm at Wright & Salmon in Peoria, IL. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 27th at 4pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Peoria Heights, Illinois with a visitation before the service at 3pm. Father Paul Stark S.J. will officiate, and celebration of life will follow after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, LaSalle Veterans' Home in LaSalle, Illinois or St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

Friends and family may sign the online guestbook or send private condolences by logging onto www.wrightandsalmon.com.
