Obituary for Thomas Gideon Schwarzlose

PEORIA-Thomas Gideon Schwarzlose, 84, of Peoria, passed away at 4:40 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2008 at Buehler Home. He was born on March 3, 1924 in Newton, IL to Fred and Hazel Clark Schwarzlose. He married Angela McDonnell on December 20, 1947 in Peoria. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, John T. (Lisa) Schwarzlose of Indian Wells, CA and Robert W. ( Brenda) Schwarzlose of Plano, TX; three daughters, Janice L. Caho of Bloomington, IL, Maribeth (Mike) Pixley of Houston, TX, and Julie (Corky) King of Willowbrook, IL; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, and one sister, Catherine Melfi of Syracuse, NY. He attended the University of Illinois and graduated from Bradley University. He served in the US Air Force during World War II and was a prisoner of war in Germany. While Tom was a POW, the Red Cross was the only contact he had with the outside world. He always said when he was released; he would help the Red Cross. Tom served on the board for many years, serving as President for four years, from 1961-1964. He was Executive Vice President of Traders Realty and was in the real estate business for 55 years. He was a past president for the United Way Campaign and served on the board of the Boy Scout Council and Lakeview Center. He also served on the Board of Directors of Christian Buehler Memorial Home for several years. He was a member of the Downtown Peoria Rotary Club for over 50 years and was a Paul Harris Fellow. His two greatest loves were spending time with his family and serving others throughout his career and volunteering. He was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church where a Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 with Rev. David Richardson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with recitation of the rosary at 7:45 p.m. Additional visitation will be 30 minutes before the mass at the church. Cremation rites accorded. Inurnment of ashes will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to American Red Cross or St. Philomena Church.
