Obituary for Thomas F. Hietter

EAST PEORIA- Thomas F. Hietter, 91, of East Peoria passed away at 7:20 PM, Monday, January 9, 2012 at his residence. He was born January 14, 1920 at Edwards Station, Illinois a son of Leo and Catherine Weese Hietter. Thomas married Jean T. Powers on August 7, 1942 in Denver, Colorado. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Patricia (John) Rowley of Florissant, MO, Kathleen (Keith) Rauhaus of Dardenne Prairie, MO, Susan (Thomas) Wright of Peoria; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Hietter of Princeville and James (Mary) Hietter of Washington; one sister, Rose (Robert) Koller of Peoria; and a son-in-law, Terry Tracy of Germantown Hills. Thomas was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Tracy; two brothers, infant Emmanuel and Earl Hietter; and his twin sister, Frances Hart. He was a gifted mechanic working for Downtown Chevrolet in Peoria and then a millwright at Keystone Steel & Wire Co. for 23 years, retiring in 1982. After retirement Thomas and Jean travelled to Arizona for the winters. He was very skilled in stained glass art. Thomas was a devoted father, husband and grandfather. He proudly served in WW II as a medic in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Dartball League, K of C St. Jude 3rd Degree, and 4th Degree Spalding Assembly. A funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM, Friday, January 13, 2012 at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Rev. Thomas Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary and 30 minutes prior to the Mass at church on Friday. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Peoria. American Legion Post #2 Honor Guard will perform military rites. Memorials may be made to the East Peoria Fire Department. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
