Obituary for Thomas Cleo Montgomery

Peoria-Thomas Cleo Montgomery, age 82, passed away, on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Liberty Village in Peoria.

Tom was born February 13, 1936 in Clinton, Iowa, a son of Kenneth M. and Catherine DeLee (Clark) Montgomery. He married Barbara Moore of Clinton, IA on August 25, 1956 in Clinton, IA after serving two years in the US Marine Corps. She survives.

He is also survived by four children; Richard “Dick” Montgomery of Peoria, Ann (Brad) McConnell of Geneseo, IL, Michael (Paula) Montgomery of Davis Junction, IL, Joseph (Lynn) Montgomery of Rockford, IL and, one brother Michael Montgomery of Columbus, OH and 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenny, and sister Alleen.

Tom attended St. Mary’s High School in Clinton, St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA and University of Iowa Law School. He proudly served in the US Marine Corp, being honorably discharged in 1956. Tom was involved in labor relations most of his life. Early in his career he was a business agent for Clinton Corn Products and an international union representative for the Chemical Workers Union. He later worked for the United States Government as a Federal Mediator for 25 years until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Peoria. He was a dog lover and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially traveling and taking his grandchildren with him.

As per Tom’s wishes, his body has been donated to science. A Memorial Service will be at Manny’s Too in Fulton, IL on Saturday January 26, 2019 at 4:30 PM. Please join us as we share another of Tom’s favorite activities, having a beer.

Memorials in Tom’s name may be made to The Heart Transplant Program at the OSF Healthcare Foundation.
