Obituary for Theresa Kathryn Ballard
It is with profound sorrow and endless love that we mourn the passing of Theresa Kathryn Ballard, 82, of Peoria. She lived her life to the fullest until she was called home by the Lord, in the wee hours of the morning, on Sunday, May 8, 2022. We rejoice in the freeing of her spirit.
Theresa was one of nine children born on August 9, 1939, in Creve Coeur, Illinois to George Lon Ohnemus and Viola Kathryn Ohnemus. She graduated from the Academy of Our Lady and earned an Associate Degree from Illinois Valley Community College in 1979.
Throughout her life, Theresa lived in multiple states including Alabama and California before returning to Streator, Illinois where she lived for over 20 years. While there she worked at Owen’s Illinois and Oogie’s Restaurant and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Later, Theresa returned to her home area of Peoria, Illinois which gave her much joy. She worked at Oogie’s Restaurant in Peoria until she retired. Later, she also worked at The Salvation Army. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
These words capture some facts about her life, but what they don’t capture is her spirit which was truly one of sacrifice and giving. Her spirit extended beyond her family to complete strangers. If she saw someone in need, she would give them anything and everything she could. To look at how she lived her life was to witness unconditional love.
Theresa is a much-loved sister to Mary Hickey and George Lon Ohnemus, Jr., beloved mother to two sons, Eron and Tracy Ballard and one daughter, Theresa (Terri) Scott and cherished grandmother to eight grandchildren, Kerrigan and Amber Katrien, Shana Jo Roper, Tyler, Jackson, and Alex Ballard, and Ian and Julian Scott.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Judith Ohnemus, Patsy Dailey, Barbara Cramsey, Cicilia Wherle, Margaret Ohnemus, and Christine Smith.
Memorial Mass will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
Memorials in Theresa’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
