Obituary for Suzanne "Susie" Cassidy Walsh

Suzanne “Susie” Cassidy Walsh, 89, of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 12:30 A.M. at Christian Buehler Home surrounded by her loving family.

Born December 29, 1927 in Peoria to John E. and Susan Casey Cassidy Sr., she married Richard J. Walsh on October 22, 1949 in Peoria. They were happily married for 49 years before he passed away June 16, 1999 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, Jack, and Tom Cassidy; two sisters, Colleen Pearl and Marilyn Costigan; and two grandchildren, Matthew Klesath and Sarah Salmon.

Susie is survived by one son, Kevin (Suzy) Walsh of Verona, N.J.; four daughters, Susan (Jeff) Klesath of Peoria, Molly (Steve) Knecht of Peoria, Beth (Matt) Salmon of Dunlap, and Mary Walsh of Peoria; thirteen grandchildren, Quinn Egan, Kelly Zarah, Meaghan Madaus, Caitlin Andrews, Brian and Patrick Klesath, Greg and Matthew Knecht, Colleen Glenzinski, Anne Eckhart, Lauren Ponder, and Molly and Lizzy Salmon; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers Owen (Becky) Cassidy of Oak Park and Doug (Kathleen) Cassidy of Lake Forest and one sister Diane Jamieson of Evanston.

Susie devoted her life to education, first teaching at St. Thomas Grade School for many years and later serving as the director at PALS Preschool in Peoria. She was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Philomena Catholic Church.

Susie will most be remembered for her devotion to her family. She was a loving mother and sister and delighted most in her role as Nannie to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.   Any chance to spend time with her family was important to her and she never missed an important event whether it was a Christmas program, birthday party, graduation, from preschool to college, a wedding or her most favorite, family vacations in Minocqua!

She had a true love of people and was known for her ease in frequent conversations, even with total strangers, and was usually the last to leave any gathering or get together.  She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Susie's family would like to thank the entire staff at Buehler Home for their loving care. Her days there were very happy due to the affection, kindness and attention of her caregivers.

Visitation will be on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM, at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at her church on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 10 A.M., with Fr. David Richardson officiating. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the mass on Monday.

Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorials in Susie’s name may be made to the St. Philomena Educational Endowment Trust or the Msgr. William Watson Scholarship Fund through St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
