Obituary for Susan K. Dunlap
Susan K. Dunlap, age 77, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. surrounded by her loving family and all of her precious grandchildren.
Susan was born on July 8, 1945 in Peoria, a daughter of Roger L. Kaiser and Mary Jane Lilya Kaiser. She married William “Howard” Dunlap on June 18, 1966 in Chillicothe, IL. whom she met at the University of Illinois and was the love of her life. He survives, of Peoria.
Also surviving are their three daughters, Kellie (Scott) Fleeman, Kristen (Mike) Selk and Heather (Patrick) Donnelly of Peoria, one sister, Sally Hollifield of Peoria, sister in law, Sally Kaiser, beloved grandchildren, Brittan Rooney, Alexa Rooney, Savanna (Truman) Ralph, Chloe Fleeman, Hillary(Alex) Sadauskas and future great-granddaughter (Sadauskas), Jack Donnelly, Mary Jane Donnelly, Meredith Roof (Jeff Bolt), Nicholas Roof and Zachary Selk, nieces, Stephanie Fiddes, Amy Trudel and nephews, Brent McClughen and Mark Kaiser.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, brother Roger Allen Kaiser and a grandson, Noah Roof.
Susan was very active in the Peoria Community. She was a Music Teacher for Peoria School District 150, Choir Director at St. Vincent’s Church for over 25 years and owned Peoria Academy of Gymnastics. Susan and Howard were long-time members of St. Philomena Catholic Church.
Susan volunteered at OSF NICU and many years for Lindberg School’s Swing Choir and for St. Philomena’s Speech team. She was also music director for many plays and musicals
(Godspell and The Wiz) at Bergan High School.
Susan was an avid volunteer for the local Democratic Committee in Peoria. She was an avid Illini Football and Basketball fan and she and Howard were season ticket holders for many years.
Susan was the grandchildren’s biggest fan and cheerleader and never missed their sporting events or activities. Her hugs will be remembered by all of their friends and teammates. She will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, with a half hour prior visitation. Fr. David Richardson will officiate. Luncheon will immediately follow Mass at St. Phil’s Parish Hall. Entombment will follow at 1:30 PM on Wednesday at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria, IL.
