Obituary for Sue C. Gauwitz
Peoria- Sue C. Gauwitz, age 80, of Peoria, passed away at 9:24 AM on Monday, September 11, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. She had been visiting friends for the last two years in Greenville, South Carolina when she became ill and returned to Peoria in May. Since that time she had been struggling with health issues.
Born Aug. 31, 1937 in Kewanee, IL , she was a daughter to Charles and Cecilia Maxwell-McElwain. She married William “Billy” Gauwitz. He preceded her in death.
Sue worked as a parts clerk for Komatsu. She was an avid gardener and truly enjoyed being a part of the Peoria Garden Club. Sue truly loved all of her Komatsu and Garden Club friends as well as her dear neighbors.
Survivors include two brothers, Terry and Bill McElwain both of Arkansas; one sister, Betty Buffet of Kewanee, IL; as well as, a loving group of loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sisters, Mary Remick and JoAnn Engels.
Cremation rights have been accorded. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 9:00 AM until time of memorial service at 10:00 AM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, in Peoria. Pastor Jeff Harter will officiate.
Memorials in Sue’s memory may be made to the Peoria Garden Club or Lutheran Hillside Village REACH Program.
