Obituary for Sr. Rima Marie Rantissi
Sr. Rima Marie Rantissi, 78, of Lebanon, beloved aunt and sister, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. She passed away on a visit to see her family in Illinois.
Sr. Rima was born on April 16, 1944, in Jaffa, Palestine, a daughter of Mina and Laurice (Sassine) Rantissi. She served as a nun in Lebanon for over 60 years. She was a teacher, mentor, and community-builder. Her great efforts across several Catholic schools in Lebanon led to their rejuvenation and rehabilitation. In the same way she offered gifts to her communities in Lebanon, she also made sure to send her care and love to her family and loved ones across the world.
She is survived by her siblings Tony Rantisi (Gabie), Antoinette Estephan (George), Lily Sobieski (Dan), Amal Saba (Mousa), Joseph Rantisi (Marilyn), Salwa Mureibe, and Jiffeh Fakhoury. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as siblings Matuk Rantisi, George Rantisi, Eli Rantisi, Yvette Sharshar, and Lodi Tannous.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church in Peoria, IL. Visitation will also be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church in Lombard, IL. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, also at Our Lady of Lebanon Church, on Friday, August 12, 2022 with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, donations may be made in cash for the St. Joseph Convent in Lebanon.
