Sister Marya Dugard died October 2, 2022 at St. Dominic Villa in Hazel Green, Wisconsin. She was 92.
She was the daughter of Joseph and Anna Pescitelli Dugard, born August 5, 1930 in Peoria, Illinois.
She was a 1944 graduate of St. Bernard’s Grade School and a 1948 graduate of the Academy of our Lady, Peoria, Illinois. She made her first profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa August 5, 1950, and her perpetual profession on August 5, 1953.
In the Diocese of Peoria, she taught at Visitation School in Kewanee, St Mark’s School, Peoria, where she was also religious 335co-ordinator. She ministered as a pastoral assistant at St. Martin de Porres Parish, Peoria, and served as a visitor to the elderly and ill at Holy Trinity Church, Bloomington, St. Mark’s, Peoria, and St. Augustine Manor, Peoria. She also taught at several Chicago schools.
Her parents and sister, Elizabeth, preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Lorraine Dugard; two brothers, Edward and Michael Dugard; several nieces and nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 72 years of religious life.
A wake and funeral mass were held at the Sinsinawa Motherhouse October 11 and 12, 2022. Burial followed in the Motherhouse cemetery in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin.
