Obituary for Sister Mary Esther Pavich
PEORIA- Sister Mary Esther Pavich, 92, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception, died January 25, 2012 at Mother of Peace Home, West Peoria. She was born September 11, 1919 in Danville, IL, a daughter of John and Esther Oilar Pavich and the stepdaughter of Mark and Elise Oreskovich. Sister Mary Esther entered the congregation on September 8, 1936 and was in her 73rd year of religious profession. Sister began her many and varied ministries in 1939. From 1939-1948, she was cook/housekeeper at St. Mary’s in Canton, the Mother house in Peoria, and St. Philomena and St. Joseph Home in Peoria. Sister’s teaching ministry began in 1948, serving at the Motherhouse, Peoria; Sacred Heart School, Moline; St. Catherine Parish, Aledo; Immaculate Conception School/Catholic Consolidated School, Spring Valley; St. Joseph’s School, Pekin; St. Mary’s School, Peru; Epiphany School, Normal; and St. Mary’s School, Metamora. From 1978-1997, Sister served as staff assistant at St. Joseph Convent, Peoria; as rectory secretary at St. Philomena, Peoria; and as social worker and office assistant at St. Joseph’s Home of Peoria. In 1997, she retired to Mother of Peace Home, Peoria. In addition to the Franciscan sisters with whom she shared her life, Sister is survived by her sister, Mary Holycross of Danville, IL; and two brothers, Tom (Sharon) Oreskovich of Danville, IL, and Franklin (Norma Jean) Oreskovich of Brantford, Ontario, Canada. She was preceded in death by her sister, Alice (Pavich) Burns; and brothers, Chris and John Pavich. Visitation will be Monday, January 30, 2012 at Immaculate Conception, 2408 West Heading Avenue, West Peoria, 3:30 to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7:00 PM by Rev. Lawrence Zurek, O.F.M. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Tuesday, January 31 at 9:00 AM. Wright & Salmon Mortuary assisting with arrangments.
