Obituary for Sister Marjorie Valiquette

WEST PEORIA-Sister Marjorie Valiquette, 76, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception, died at 11:25 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Mother of Peace Home. She was born Marjorie Ann Valiquette on February 6, 1932 in Rock Island to Vincent and Veronica McLain Valiquette. She entered the Congregation on September 8, 1950 and was in the 56th years of religious profession. Sister Marjorie served as a teacher at St. Mary’s School, Peru; Catholic Consolidated School, Spring Valley, where she also served as principal; Immaculate Conception Convent kindergarten and preparatory high school, Peoria; Epiphany School, Normal, and as librarian at Bergan High School, Peoria. She also served her congregation by instructing young women who were becoming sisters. For the next 21 years, she taught at St. Mary’s School, Metamora. After retirement from teaching in 2005, she tutored and helped in the library there. Sister is survived by her Franciscan sisters, her sisters, Sister Mary Baptista, V.H.M., St. Louis, MO, Diane, Rock Island, IL; and her brother, David (Debbie) Borne, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Rev. Vincent (Jack) and Rev. Thomas Valiquette, S.J. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Convent, 2408 W. Heading Ave., West Peoria from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. by the Franciscan Friars. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Retirement Fund of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
