Obituary for Sister Maria (Anna) Logonder
Sister Maria (Anna) Logonder , 91, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception, died on June 1, 2022 at Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria. She was the daughter of Franc and Gertrude (Oman) Logonder.
Sister Maria was born in Crngrob, Slovenia. She emigrated with her mother and sisters to the United States. She entered the congregation on September 9, 1951, and was in her 67th year of religious profession. Sister earned a BA in Philosophy from St. Ambrose College, Davenport, IA. Sister Maria also attended many classes and workshops on the topic of gerontology.
Sister Maria began her ministry in 1954. She ministered at Guardian Angel Home, Peoria, and St. Joseph’s Home, Springfield. She taught primary grades at St. Mary’s School, Canton; St. Mary’s School, Metamora; and St. Philomena School, Peoria. Sister Maria spent many years in ministry to the elderly at St. Joseph’s Home, Peoria.
In addition to the Franciscan sisters with whom she shared her life, Sister Maria is survived by her sister, Freda Arko (Joseph) and her niece, Sylvia Astrop (John).
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia (Logonder) Gustin, and Maria (Logonder) Bilban, and one brother, Franz Logonder.
Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Convent, 2408 West Heading Avenue, West Peoria on Friday, June 3 from 4:30p.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Saturday June 4th from 8:30a.m. – 9:00 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. Reverend William Miller as celebrant. Burial will immediately follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Peoria.
Memorials may be made to the Retirement Fund of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception.
