Obituary for Silvio P. Matarelli
Peoria- Silvio P. Matarelli, 93, a resident of Independence Village, passed away on August 18, 2017 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was a loving and caring son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle and will be dearly missed.
Silvio was born on November 8, 1923 in Toluca, Il. to Luca and Teresa (Antonacci) Matarelli. He married Audrey M. Voorhees on November 2, 1946 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He built their home and lived there for 61 years. He is survived by one daughter, Marli (Michael) Baumgardner of Peoria; two sons, Steven, and Michael (Shari) Matarelli of Pottsboro, TX; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Matarelli, Sr. of San Francisco, CA., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey, in 2009, three brothers, and three sisters.
Silvio was a World War II Army veteran serving with the 605th Anti-Aircraft Command and 1288th Engineer Combat Battalion. He later worked as a bricklayer foreman and superintendent for several construction companies, last employed by Williams Brothers. He was very proud of all the jobs he ran which included many schools, churches, and hospitals in Peoria.
Silvio was a devout member of St. Mark Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Elks Club and Timberlake Club where he enjoyed many years of golfing and fishing.
Private family services will be held and burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
