Obituary for Shirley M. Staab
PEORIA - Shirley M. Staab, 93, of Peoria, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Christian Buehler Home.

Shirley was born on March 8, 1924, in Peoria, to Philip (P.E.) and Marjorie Henseler. She married Jacob “Jake” Staab on February 7, 1948, in Peoria. Shirley and Jake first met at Caterpillar, Inc., where she worked in the metalurgy laboratory and he was a mechanical engineer.

Shirley is survived by three children, Phil (Nancy) Staab of Mentor, Ohio, Mary Ann (Jon) Manock of Peoria and Julie (Mike) Blaser of West Des Moines, Iowa. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jon and Megan Manock and Matthew and Joseph Blaser. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Jake.

She attended grade school and high school in Peoria and Bradley University in Peoria. She and Jake lived in California for a number of years after Jake was commissioned as an ensign in the Navy during the Korean War.

Jake was the manager of Caterpillar’s proving grounds in Spring Bay for many years and represented Caterpillar as a member of the International Standards Organization (ISO). Through ISO, Shirley and Jake were able to travel abroad, including many trips to Europe.

Shirley loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was a skilled card player, an excellent cook, loved to laugh and had many life-long friends in the Peoria area. She particularly enjoyed the many friends that she met at Mt. Hawley Country Club. Shirley was a woman of faith and a devout Catholic member of St. Philomena Parish in Peoria.

A private family service will be held at a future date, with Father David Richardson officiating.
