Obituary for Shirley Franz

PEORIA HEIGHTS – Shirley Mae Franz, 84, of Peoria Heights passed away at her home on Sunday morning, July 22, 2012.

She was born July 2, 1928 in Peoria, IL to Henry and Mary (Grieshaber) Mammen. She graduated from Manual High School. She worked for International Paper Company for 17 years. She married John Franz in Peoria on March 8, 1969.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Evelyn Greenway and Virginia McCann.

She is survived by her husband, John and her daughter, Glenda (Patrick) McLaughlin of Peoria. Her sister, Marion Heinz of Peoria, survives, along with grandchildren, Colleen Watt of Murfreesboro, TN, Patrick (Susie) McLaughlin of Mt. Horeb, WI, Timothy (Jennifer) McLaughlin of Bellingham, WA, and great-grandchildren, Molly, Jimmy, Logan, Eullan and Doran. Also surviving are stepson, Jack Franz of Peoria and stepdaughter, Chris Scholl of CO Springs, CO and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. She had a great sense of humor and loved best sharing good times with her family. She thoroughly enjoyed music, dancing, laughter and cheering for the Cardinals. Shirley was a loyal friend and confidant. Her beautiful smile made everyone feel welcome and special. The party was never over.

Funeral Mass will be Friday, July 27, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Father Thomas Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Wright Salmon Mortuary. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:45 p.m. An additional visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
