Obituary for Shirley B. Saathoff

Peoria- Shirley B. Saathoff, 80, of Peoria, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, December 25, 2010 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. She was born May 12, 1930 in Wrightstown, Wisconsin to Joseph and Constance Geniesse Berger. She married William Saathoff on August 21, 1952 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Wrightstown. He survives, along with five daughters, Kathleen (John) Katzke of Peoria, Margaret (Jim) Anderson of Rock Springs, WY, Constance (Carl) Shaffer of Medicine Lake, MN, Carol Saathoff of Peoria, and Mary (Erick) Jensen of Savage, MN, one son, Paul Saathoff of Rock Springs, WY. Shirley is also survived by two brothers, Joseph Berger of Orange, CA, and Andrew (Karen) Berger of Caldwell, NJ. Also surviving are six grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Phyllis of Hamilton, MT. Shirley was very involved at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and school, and her community. She was a member of the first school board, worked in the hot lunch program and play ground. She was also President of the parish Ladies Guild for one year, and part time secretary for the church for fifteen years. She played the organ at times for the Children’s Mass and Sunday Mass. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and Neighborhood Chairman for the Girl Scouts for several years. After retiring from the parish secretary job, she volunteered at Proctor Community Hospital for fifteen years. A Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul, with Msgr. Jason Gray officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the rosary at 6:45. Further visitation will be half hour prior to the mass on Wednesday. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
